Chimney Rock: Trails

chimney rock charlotte

The views from Pulpit Rock, Chimney Rock, the Opera Box, and Hickory Nut Falls were all beautiful. Overall its a great park to visit and do some moderate hiking. None of the trails that we were on were super strenuous but there are a lot of stairs in several places.

It starts off from the end of Exclamation Point Trail and takes you into the beautiful backcountry for a 2.2 miles round trip. This short sojourn can be accessed after reaching the top of Chimney Rock. It’s a 20-minute diversion up to an even higher peak in the park, 2,480 feet above sea level. These falls were featured in the film Last of the Mohicans and are some of the tallest east of the Mississippi. It’s an awe-inspiring adventure, frozen into magical icy formations or covered in vibrant fall foliage.

Just outside of Hendersonville is the town of Flat Rock, home to one of our favorite Western NC attractions—the Carl Sandburg National Historic Site. This National Parks site commemorates the famed Pulitzer Prize author’s home, where he spent his final days. Chimney Rock State Park hosts a variety of events throughout the year. Events include outdoor yoga sessions, music concerts, survival skills, and more.

Chimney Rock State Park

The best time to visit Chimney Rock is during fall in North Carolina. Come mid to late October, the area is awash with colors, and Chimney Rock will be even more of a spectacle. The upper waters near Bat Cave offer a teeming population of trout and small and largemouth bass in the lower area.

Things to Do Near Chimney Rock State Park

One of the park’s biggest events is the arrival of Santa during the Christmas season. Beyond hiking, there are even more Chimney Rock State Park attractions. While visiting Chimney Rock State Park, we ask you to PLEASE leave no trace. Pack in and out, and please do not litter in our beloved public spaces. #travelbloggervibes #travelbloggerlifestyle #workremotely #beaufortnorthcarolina #beaufortnc #workview...

Along this trail are picnic tables, benches, and resting areas are conveniently located offering you a chance to rest and catch your breath. The view spans for miles, across to the Blue Ridge Mountains and Carolina Piedmont in the distance. We visited Chimney Rock State Park as part of our USA road trip with my parents. It was one of our favorite things to do in North Carolina with family as we all enjoyed different aspects of the hike.

About the Park

There’s such a wide variety of terrains within the grounds that there’s quite a diverse array of habitats as well. KOA and River Creek are nearby campgrounds that offer plenty of private and group sites for tents and RVs in the stunning mountain surroundings with all the amenities needed. Sometimes these scheduled festivities will also encompass an overnight camping component.

Sharing the Trail

The Weed Patch Mountain Trail, located at Eagle Rock access, connects Eagle Rock in Chimney Rock State Park to Buffalo Creek Park near Rumbling Bald Resort. It traverses rugged mountain terrain through a remote wilderness area. The Rumbling Bald Trail would suit well as a self-guided trail for kids, as part of the nationwide network of Kids in Parks Track Trails, but any trail can be utilized. Our aim is to help you get the most out of your travel around the Carolinas. The park is pet friendly, so feel free to bring any furry companions along in your adventure.

It also happens to be the hub for many of the amenities in the park. Earley, who investigated the incident, said the family had just moved to Charlotte four days earlier from Michigan. They were on a family outing for the day and were hiking on "Cliff Trail," one of the park's main trails. Before anyone noticed, the girl worked her way around the opposite side of a barricade, Earley said. The Four Seasons Trail takes you off the beaten path from the lower parking lot and up through the forests.

And there are a couple of walking trails that take you up to the mountain above Chimney Rock which offer incredible views you won’t see anywhere else in the Park. The trailhead is located at Eagle Rock access, located at 1911 Shumont Road in Black Mountain. Eagle Rock is free to access, but there is currently limited parking, so please be prepared to make alternate plans if the parking area is full upon arrival. Set on the south face of Rumbling Bald Mountain are numerous rock climbing opportunities for all skill levels. There is no fee to try your hand at some scrambling here, but it’s important to plan ahead as a registration and permit are required beforehand. It’s a moderate to strenuous trek and follows a series of switchbacks up the mountain ridge to Peregrine’s Point.

Take Interstate 40 East to Exit #53 (Blue Ridge Parkway and Highway 74A East). The Rumbling Bald is accessed by the 1.5 mile looped Rumbling Bald Trail, and a permit must be given by the state park (though permits are free to obtain). Be sure to check the events page before visiting to see what’s on. One of the most iconic events if the Flock the Rock event.

Unless you’re under 4 years old, there’s a small entrance fee. If you’re thinking of going even a few times within a year, look into getting the annual pass for $32 to save a few bucks. Chimney Rock State Park offers some of North Carolina’s most stunning scenery. There is an underground gold mine that is open for self-guided tours, as well as opportunities for visitors to pan their own gold and other minerals. Located in the foothills of the Brushy Mountains, the Emerald Hollow Mine is the only emerald mine in the world open to the public for prospecting. This guided experience allows the most passionate rockhounders the chance to dig their own holes and search for all of the minerals that this area can provide.

Go 14 miles to the stop sign (Lake Lure will be in front of you). In the Den, you’ll see animals who were rescued from the park and are being cared for in the Discovery Den. You’ll get to learn new animal facts and visit the resident possums and groundhogs. The state park is home to some native and rare species of plants, fauna and wildlife. You can learn all about it at Animal Discover Den, located near the exit of the park.

It also has the most facilities, including riverside areas, interpretive exhibits, and gift shops. The free Rumbling Bald and Eagle Rock accesses provide a more rugged backcountry experience. Access to this trail requires paid admission to the attraction. The trailhead is located near the top of the park road; visitors can park at the upper parking area and walk carefully down the park road. Alternatively, there is a set of stairs adjacent to the restrooms in the upper parking area, at the base of the Outcroppings Trail, that leads down to this trail. The park features hiking trails for all skill levels, views of the Devil's Head balancing rock, and a 404-foot (123 m) waterfall, Hickory Nut Falls.

The bridge and gardens are free to visit and open 24 hours a day year-round. “The scenery, the friendliness of the people, the old-timey buildings here, it really is kind of a step back in time to an old mountain village,” said Peter O’Leary. If you’re lucky you may catch a glimpse of the river otters, bears, or groundhogs that live nearby. The brewery is family-friendly, including 4-legged furry family members. — Your704 is hitting the road on short trips from Charlotte that you can make on one tank of gas. NC Tripping offers access to a huge audience with multiple advertising options.

They also have a peacock habitat and goat exhibit to offer more than just rock experiences. From gifts for relatives to keepsakes, this is perfect for visitors who want to wear their experience. The North Carolina State Parks also host a 100-mile challenge throughout their state parks. The mountains here provide an opportunity to see rocks up close and personal by scaling their cliffs and mountainsides. Friends of State Parks is a nonprofit citizen organization supporting, promoting, and advocating for the North Carolina State Parks system as a whole. The group helps provide funding for Junior Ranger and Youth in Parks – Environmental Education programs, as well as grants for state parks projects.

I didn’t not like that I could not select my seat and ended up with the worse seat. Seats in first class on the E175 recline too far back. I was in 2A, and the man in 1A fully reclined almost the entire flight. It took 6-7 inches of space away from me and made it very difficult to work on my laptop. An AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and a 40-caliber handgun were found at the scene.

We had to wait again for the okay to the pilot to take off so we were on the runway for another 20 min. Overall, we were delayed over 2 hours which felt like 4 hours. First the good, everyone was friendly and efficient. Flight was smooth and plane was very clean and new. Now the bad, seats have almost no padding on your behind.

The guy with severe body odor sat next to me. For the whole duration of the flight it was a torture. The airline should have better policy on limiting people with bad body odor to board the flight. Passengers should not be the ones to endure bad odor for the whole duration of the flight. The airline should be e the one to ensure decent air quality for ever passenger. Temperature in the plane was quite warm for the entire flight - actually just outright hot making for an unoleay4 hours.

Received contrasting news about the follow up of our trip. Finally we disembarked but our luggage could not be processed there as not enough custom agents. Izabel Mar as Lady Macbeth was perhaps my favorite, if a favorite is possible from this cast. The 400-year old lines dripped from her lips as if they truly were her very own thoughts. Charlotte Schweiger was the lucky but deserving recipient of the part of Macbeth. While it is her ambition that drives the whole story, she is often unwilling to accept responsibility for the results of her unchecked ambition. It is Schweiger who ultimately makes us believe that the tale of Macbeth is still present among us, in the often unexplored depths of depravity. Here she leads the rest, rather of her own volition or pressured from the pack, it matters not.

Services

Likewise, Macbeth herself (played by Charlotte Schweiger) portrays the role’s shift from overwrought Thane of Cawdor to hubristic King of Scotland as convincingly. A versatile supporting cast—most playing multiple roles—complete the talented young group. Paola Nuñez will play Esme Carmona, an NFFA surveillance expert whose life is dedicated to ensuring no one breaks the rules of Purge night. She thinks that the NFFA works and she works for surveillance,” Nuñez said as she shared her thoughts about her character with The Work Print. “The reason that Esme started working for the NFFA was that she had a really traumatic experience with her family. She feels betrayed by the system and that’s when everything changes for her.” Before landing her starring role in The Purge, Nuñez was most recently seen alongside Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in the feature film Bad Boys For Life.

A black wall and tattered, overturned sofa; an old tire; a filthy bathtub and dead, dry grass set the scene (the work of set designer Catherine Cornell), reflective of the work’s grim tone and portending doom. In standard private school uniforms, the young actors are schoolgirls retelling the story of ambition gone awry. Lady Macbeth, played by local actress Izabel Mar in her Seattle Rep debut, skillfully personifies one of the most formidable female characters in the Shakespearean canon.

The tales linking masculinity with violence have become to ubiquitous, and we have become numb. This new retelling of Macbeth, adapted by the stupendous (there really is no other word) Erica Schmidt brings us back to the truth of the horrific nature of Macbeth's actions. The staging and stunts throughout the show elicit a sinister uneasiness. The set is used in so many innovative ways that I found myself trying to guess how some objects might be used.

It is a personal matter to us, whether you are merely satisfied or absolutely delighted with our service. And so more than an agent, we offer a highly experienced team. Stream new movies, hit shows, exclusive Originals, live sports, WWE, news, and more. Peacock currently has 2 seasons of The Purge available for streaming. That does not mean that they are sacred and unchangeable.

The three witches played by Sophie Kelly-Hedrick, Laakan McHardy, and Analiese Mereson Guettinger are harbingers of good things to come in the theater world. They displayed precise comedic timing, fierce energy, and decadent mischievousness. Tamsen Glaser as Banquo was freakishly awesome, especially in ghost form. Klarissa Maria Robles as Macduff was understated and subtle, but brilliant in her own way as the only character left with any moral authority.

When no one will call the bluff, the game becomes real. In the end, they can only muse, "we really did go on three." We want you to become a part of the fabric of your new community. We take the challenge of earning your trust and loyalty to heart.

Her final scene is heart-wrenching, awful, and deserved, and she makes us feel every bit of it. MACBETH at Seattle Repertory Theatre is hauntingly brilliant. Take the classic tale of ambition and lust for power, mix it with an ensemble of seven young women with dark imaginations, and add toxic manipulations and you have a new, gritty adaptation that will leave you speechless. Young adolescent girls are usually portrayed as innocent and hopeful, but here they are desperate, raw, misunderstood, and so easily slip across the line from fantasy to murder. The story of Macbeth has perhaps become too familiar to us.

I will refrain from providing any details as this fresh adaptation deserves to be seen with fresh eyes. Hats off to the entire production staff for embracing the story in all its gore. The show comes with a well-earned graphic violence warning and is suggested for age sixteen and up. I would allow my fourteen year-old daughter to see it if only for the knowledge of the show's power to make Shakespeare relevant and spur my young thespian past her fear of iambic pentameter. Schweiger Dermatology Group was founded to help make excellent dermatology care accessible throughout the Northeast. In 2010, Dr. Eric Schweiger started the practice with a single location in Midtown Manhattan.

Ben, a clean-cut student whose life changes dramatically when he goes out on Purge night for the first time, is played by Joel Allen. Catching up with The Work Print at Comic-Con, the young actor gave us a little insight into his character, and what we can expect of him in the upcoming season. “Ben is really an average dude with really average grades,” he explained. “You really feel like, “Well, what would I do if I was in that situation on my first Purge.” Prior to The Purge, Allen was best known for his performance in the Sundance comedy Never Goin’ Back (2018), and can next be seen in Rollers and What Breaks the Ice. The unlikeliest of casts is also unanimously remarkable. The commitment, sure-footedness, and dedication to the story are evident in each member of the cast.

Claim this listing now to edit business details and hours. We dedicate hours upon hours of hard work, more than just “diligence”. We add original ideas, remarkable touches that will excite you about buying or selling your home. And finally, you have our complete appreciation for choosing to work with the Schwaiger Realty Group. She is well known for her roles in Hollywood films and television shows. As we all know, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step; similarly, she began her playing career in the entertainment industry with minor roles. She was always interested in performing and drama since she was a child. In terms of her professional career, she has appeared in scores of films and television programs. Her movie roles left a lasting influence on the audience.

When he saw the need for high-quality dermatology care that did not require weeks or months of waiting to see a qualified provider, his vision of a multi-location practice was born. Playing Max Martini, a laser-focused character whose entire year is spent getting ready for Purge night, is Ryan Grant. Download the Peacock app and start streaming full episodes of The Purge. Due to a prophecy from three witches, Macbeth believes he is destined to be king, so much so that he is willing to remove the obstacle in his path, the current king. Egged on and aided by Lady Macbeth who questions his manhood if he is unwilling to act, the deed is done. The prophecy also foretold of future kings from descendants of Banquo.

Schmidt and Seattle Repertory Theatre have reminded us why we love Shakespeare and why we must keep searching for the truths of today within the texts. We are reminded how good men, or in this case good girls, are capable of appalling things. When passion is high and goes unchecked, when a trusted friend or love whispers not caution but rather incites, even heroes can fall. I would go back to see this show again "tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow."

To Dress Up or Not: Guide to What to Wear on Cruise Formal Night

what to wear on a cruise formal night

Add a pair of black strappy heels and a crystal cuff bracelet to complete your formal night look. A floor-length gown in a stunning shade of red brings to mind old-school Hollywood glamour, just right for your elegant evening! (I’m picturing this with a peekaboo wave hairstyle, à la Veronica Lake). Pair it with vintage-style gold stilettoes and a crystal necklace and earrings set for a little sparkle. You can’t go wrong with a little black dress, and this one’s extra special with a draped ruffle and flattering pleats at the waist.

Cunard Dress Code: There Will Be Balls and Galas

The gown is made from tulle, so it will never look creased on your cruise. The straps are adjustable, and the high-waisted design will be flattering for everyone, whether you’re a UK size 8 or a size 30. Short at the front and long at the back, this cruise evening dress has beautiful diamante and faux pearl detailing at the waist. The empire cut and ruched detailing make this dress a flattering option for ladies of every shape, from petite size 8s to plus-size 30s.

Must-Have Things to Pack for an Alaskan Cruise (11 You’d Never Think Of)

T-shirts, swimsuits, robes, tank tops, caps and pool wear are not allowed in the main or specialty restaurants at any time. The answer is that it is far more likely to be enforced in specialty restaurants than in other venues. You may also find that the shorter the cruise, the less formal even formal night becomes onboard.

Cruises

Few issues create as much confusion among cruisers as what they are allowed to wear onboard, especially the when and where of it all. During the golden age of ocean liners, guests staying in first class cabins were required to wear formal attire after 6 PM in all public areas of the ship. In the early decades of modern cruise travel, women wore evening gowns and men donned white tie in the evenings. Luxury cruise line dress codes vary from one cruise line to the other, however it may surprise you to know that many luxury cruise lines don’t have formal nights, and instead are Country Club Casual.

what to wear on a cruise formal night

As the choices in cruise dress-up evolve, gone are the days of mandatory tuxedos and evening gowns. Today’s cruise ship clothes offer a delicate balance between elegance and ease. It's vital to note that dress codes can vary significantly between different cruise lines and even among ships within the same fleet. Luxury cruises might lean towards a more traditional definition of formal wear, expecting tuxedos and gowns as standard attire. In contrast, mainstream cruises could offer a more relaxed interpretation, where a nice dress or a shirt and trousers would suffice.

At the core of it, formal nights on a cruise ship are not about strict rules but celebrating special occasions in style. Women typically shine in cocktail dresses, evening gowns, or sophisticated pant suits, while men don refined options like tuxedos, suits, or smart blazers with trousers. The key is to aim for attire that's a notch above the usual day wear, aligning with the ship's transformed ambiance. Think of our formal dress code as a night out in your best black-tie look — suits and ties, tuxedos, cocktail dresses or evening gowns are all acceptable options. There can be 1-3 formal nights during a sailing and is at the ship’s discretion. Our Chef’s Table dining experience also enforces a formal dress code policy.

Most evenings on a cruise will be casual, smart casual or resort casual dress code. Many cruise lines now allow wearing nice jeans to the main dining room on a cruise, a change from the past. Each cruise line has it’s own dress code, however most have a version of casual, smart casual, and formal nights. The terminology that cruise lines are using reflect subtle changes to the dress code.

Norwegian Cruise Line dress code

During casual nights on a cruise, resort wear or casual attire is usually appropriate. This can include nice slacks, a blouse for women, khakis, and a polo shirt for men. Themed evenings and gala nights are the hallmarks of cruise entertainment, demanding a wardrobe that elevates your style to match the night’s festivities.

While the formal night is a fun night of elegant dining, photographs with the captain, and a change of pace from the rest of the cruise, you won’t be alone if you decide to skip the occasion. Rather than dine in the main dining room, you can always eat in the buffet or on your balcony via room service. In our experience, family oriented cruise lines are understandably much more “casual” than “higher-end” cruise lines. Cruise casual, resort wear or country club casual are all terms used by the cruise lines as a recommendation.

It comes with a shirt and tie, so you’ll just need dress shoes and a matching belt to complete the look. This bracelet-sleeve lace cocktail dress features eyelash lace at the scalloped hem and an elegant v-neck at the back, making it perfect for a formal night updo. Add gold chain link earrings and kitten heel pumps for a polished evening ensemble. Finally, formal nights can also serve as a way to encourage passengers to spend more time and money on board the ship.

However, guests are able to have clothing pressed or dry cleaned prior to formal night. When you arrive in your stateroom on the first day of the cruise there should be a paper there with information about laundry, dry cleaning, and pressing services. Women can simply wear a cocktail dress or a nice blouse with pants. For men, it’s fine to wear a suit, or even a buttoned-down shirt and a pair of slacks if you don’t want to get too fancy. Nice jeans would also be ok, although we’d suggest something slightly more dressy.

Royal Caribbean's dinner dress code includes nights that are formal, smart-casual and casual. Formal attire includes suits and ties or tuxedos for men and cocktail dresses and evening gowns for women. Smart-casual attire includes collared shirts and slacks for men (jackets, sports coats and blazers are welcome) and dresses, skirts and blouses or pantsuits for women.

I Live on a Cruise Ship 300 Days a Year Here's How

life on a cruise ship

To sail on a ship and not wake up to a vast blue carpet of ocean? However, rich cuisine and desserts are plentiful when cruising, so full-time cruisers need to make nutrition and health a priority. Mama Lee Wachstetter, a full-time Princess Cruises resident, modified her diet by ordering only half portions at each meal. Ask for steamed vegetables or a plain salad, or request sauces on the side. Another plus for extroverts is that you'll interact with a more diverse age group on a cruise ship than you would at a retirement community.

Now, because I cruise so often with Royal Caribbean, I've moved up in its loyalty program

But if you fancy it, there are plenty of cruise ship jobs with no experience needed. When you’re booking a Carnival cruise, the cheapest fare you can get will be one where you only pay for the cruise itself and the necessary extras – the port fees, taxes and gratuities. With that in mind, I’ve used 10 years as a guideline, comparing the price of buying a room on a residential ship for 10 years, against the cost of booking traditional cruises for the same time period. Studios on the yacht range from two to six bedrooms, so you can really splash out on a luxury pad for entertaining guests if you want to. The biggest suites are 9,000 square feet – consider how an average interior room on a cruise ship is around 130 square feet, and you get the picture.

Crew Cabins

Knowing these options is the first step to giving up your life on land and setting sail for the foreseeable future. The world is a residential cruise ship that offers 165 private residencies with prices ranging from $2 million to $16 million, excluding annual ship fees. In theory, you could get a work-from-home job and work on a cruise ship, and potentially save yourself tax money by not being permanently based in your home country!

Norwegian Cruise Line Reminds Guests of Delayed Embarkation

life on a cruise ship

Technically you could live on any cruise ship, but it might not be possible. Cruises don’t always sell out, but the most popular staterooms and cabins book up far in advance. You would have to constantly look at booking cruises to make sure you have somewhere to stay. It is possible to live on a cruise ship and there are several cruise lines that allow you to purchase an apartment onboard.

Oh, Ship Internet, You Are Frustrating

Every cruise ship has its own slop chest, which is basically a store where the crew can buy snacks, water, soft drinks, hygiene products, cleaning items, and more. One of the things you will often hear people saying is that once you experience life at sea, the life on land will never be the same – and I couldn’t agree more. It’s the perfect opportunity to explore the world in safety and style, taking advantage of all types of amenities that you wouldn’t be able to experience in an on-shore residence. Your friends and family are far away and letters can be few and far between thanks to the remote nature of living at sea. If you want to take more of a DIY approach to living on a cruise, you can follow in the footsteps of Mario Salcedo and simply book back-to-back cruises.

Living the rest of your life on a cruise ship seems like the dream of the ultra-rich. You wake up every morning and have an all-you-can-eat breakfast. Spend the afternoon hanging out by the pool or touring a fantastic city such as Rome or Dubrovnik.

All I knew was that I was going to spend seven months at sea, with people I didn’t know and doing a job that I didn’t know much about. If you’re going to live on a cruise ship, chances are you’re going to want internet access. Q: Where Do You Sail When You Work On a Cruise Ship?

You will make new friends, relationships, experience break-ups, tough times with your coworkers, go through ups and downs. On a cruise, all your food and entertainment are included in the cost of the cruise. While you pay a lot upfront, you can actually end up saving money by doing away with monthly car payments and gas bills, utility costs, and grocery bills. One of the biggest benefits of living on a cruise ship is that you get to explore the world – and we literally mean the world. Living on a cruise ship has both, and we need to highlight a few of them before you sell your land home, say emotional goodbyes to the family, and put the pets up for adoption. Full-service hospitals are found at ports only, which can be few and far between when cruising.

Guests’ and crew members’ health is a top priority for cruise lines and there is a dedicated medical facility onboard each cruise ship for both guests and crew. This medical facility is usually located on deck 1 and is shared, however, there are separate entrances for guests and crew. If you’re planning to stay full-time onboard a cruise ship, make sure to take the time out of your day to socialize with other passengers.

There are additional taxes and fees listed in the costs before you hit the ‘book my cruise’ button. For example, for a seven-night cruise in the Caribbean you can expect to pay around $100 to $150 in taxes and port fees per person. This, of course, is a fluid number that’s dependent upon how many cruise ports your itinerary includes and the specific destinations themselves. “Super Mario,” for example, has spent over 20 years living on Royal Caribbean ships in interior cabins, mostly on itineraries in the Caribbean.

That’s because they’re more like luxury ships, and they’re very exclusive. Plus you’re buying an asset, which can be sold on at a later date. Healthcare facilities and services on cruise ships have improved significantly in recent years.

And as I leaned out over my balcony, I beheld a slight vista of the sea and surf that I thought I had been missing. The sea was frothy and infinite and blue-green beneath the span of a seagull’s wing. And though it had been trod hard by the world’s largest cruise ship, it remained. In preparation for sailing, I have “priced in,” as they say on Wall Street, the possibility that I may come from a somewhat different monde than many of the other cruisers.

The very color of my Suite Sky SeaPass Card, an oceanic blue as opposed to the cloying royal purple of the standard non-Suite passenger, will soon provoke envy and admiration. But as high as my status may be, there are those on board who have much higher status still, and I will soon learn to bow before them. The story you are reading was commissioned at a moment when most staterooms on the Icon were sold out.

The limousines of the prime minister and his lackeys are parked beside the gangway. St. Kitts, I’ve been told, is one of the few islands that would allow a ship of this size to dock. In keeping with the aquatic theme, I attend a show at the AquaDome. To the sound of “Live and Let Die,” a man in a harness gyrates to and fro in the sultry air. I saw something very similar in the back rooms of the famed Berghain club in early-aughts Berlin.

Port Canaveral Orlando, Florida cruise port schedule

cruise ship port schedule

Starting December 22, 2017 (through April 2018), HAL Holland America Line (Carnival Corporation brand) scheduled cruises to Cuba roundtrip from Port Everglades on MS Veendam. HAL's 7-, days long Cuban itineraries from Fort Lauderdale also visited other Caribbean ports. HAL's prices started from USD 900 per person (double occupancy inside cabin rates). The 210-passenger ship Pearl Mist became the ever-first to operate roundtrip Fort Lauderdale to Cuba cruises, with 10-day itineraries (January through April 2017). Annually, the port handles 4000+ vessels (passenger, bulk cargo, container ships), cargo tonnage 25,3+ million tons, TEU-containers 7,2+ million, passengers 3,86+ million. Port's annual revenue is ~USD 170 million, Net income ~USD 75 million, business activities ~USD 30 billion.

(expanded) MSC Terminal F

On May 22, 2019, Disney Cruises signed with CPA a 20-year operating agreement for homeporting two of its three newbuilds. Under the new deal, Disney has 3 boats homeported here (2 new, 1 old) which increased the number of guaranteed roundtrips from 150 per year (2019) to 180 (2023) and 216 (2024 and beyond). Connecting to Con Edison power grid, the shorepower system allows ships to run their onboard systems without using diesel generators. This eliminates ~1500 tons of CO2, ~95 tons of NOx, and ~6,5 tons of soot/particulate matter annually.

Miami, Florida

Located at the Dodge Island north part are terminals B/C, D, E , F, G, on the west is terminal H (V) and on the south – terminal J. The luxury market is operated by cruise terminal J - facility made to look like a boutique. All passenger terminals offer cafes, check-in, shops, bars and cab ranks. PortMiami is a major US seaport located on Dodge Island (Biscayne Bay, Florida). It is ranked the world's largest passenger port (serving both cruise and ferry shipping traffic). The port is linked to Watson Island via PortMiami Tunnel (building cost USD 1 billion).

CRUISE PORTS BY REGION

Departures are on Thursdays (4-day itinerary to Freeport and Nassau) and on Mondays and Saturdays (5-day itinerary to Amber Cove Dominicana and Grand Turk Island). Costs were ~USD 10 million (to service one slip) and involve substantial infrastructure improvements. Ship operators must spend ~USD 1 million to make a vessel shorepower-ready.

In 2016, the cruise port completed pilot testing of APC kiosks (abbrev "Automated Passport Control") in 2 terminals. This is yet another CBP initiative to fasten the passenger inspection process. In 2016 was completed another (USD 48,4 million) renovation project at Cruise Terminal 5 (used mostly by Carnival Cruise Line). Among the improvements were terminal expansion, pier elongation (by 120 ft / 37 m), new mobile boarding bridges, new parking garage (capacity 1044 cars). The 1991-built Terminal 5 now allows berthing of larger ships (with up to 3500 passengers / previously up to 2500).

FY2019 (Sept 2018-Sept 2019) was again record-breaking for both container shipping (+3,4 % increase, to 1,12 million TEUs) and cruise shipping (+22% increase, to 6,824 million passengers). In 2019 were signed terminal development projects with Carnival Corporation, MSC, NCLH-Norwegian, Virgin UK, CMA-CGM (for Terminal Link Miami). The port generated ~USD 7,8 billion (economic impact) and supported ~27,500 South Florida jobs. PortMiami has capacity to handle the world's biggest passenger ships and is homeport (turnaround port) for numerous large-sized vessels. However, port's prime shipping business are container ships, ranking it Florida's largest container cargo port and USA's 9th-largest. Annually, it handles 4+ million cruise ship tourists, around 7,4 million cargo tons and 1+ million TEU-containers.

Until 2018, RCI represented annual capacity 0,8 million passengers (~15% of the Port's overall traffic). With the new terminal, this capacity was expected to increase to ~2 million. RCCL later added to the project another building (named "Innovation Lab") that serves as the corporation's headquarters. Innovation Lab is sized 1860 m2 (20,000 ft2) and also hosts the company's ship design studio.

Norwegian Joy's refurbishment details/changes unveiled (SPA, Suites, Beach Club)

In 2016, about USD 2,3 million were spent at Disney Terminal 8's renovations. Cruise Terminal 10 was reopened on November 19, 2016, following USD 35 million expansion and upgrade project which took 6 months to complete. The facility is on the site of "Cruise Terminal 3" (port's southern / B side), west of Jetty Park and east of The Cove (dining-shopping-attractions complex).

The development project allowed the terminal to handle larger cruise ships (carrying up to 5,500 passengers). In February 2023 was subcontracted PowerCon AS (Hadsund Denmark-based engineering and manufacturing company specializing in electrical power conversions) to deliver 5x shore power systems for cruise vessels. For this particular project was established the subsidiary PoweCon USA. When completed (2023-Q4), the combined shore-power system will be the world's largest. In 2018, PortMiami implemented the NOAA agency's (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) PORTS system (Physical Oceanographic Real-Time System).

In October 2014, RCCL-Royal Caribbean and NYC Port Authority dedicated a Cape Liberty cruise terminal for the RCI's ship Quantum OTS. In 2010, the NY-NJ Port Authority estimated that improvement to air quality could yield public health benefits of USD 99 million over 15 years. That was a key element for community groups around the terminal’s Red Hook neighborhood to start pushing for shore power. Beyond the infrastructure cost, the project was delayed by haggling over the price of electrical power – in an era where cheap fuel prices made shipboard generation more economical.

The new Disney terminal was officially opened/inaugurated on November 13th. The ceremony was attended by Sharon Siskie (DCL's Senior VP and General Manager). The shore-power project's cost was estimated at ~US$20 million per terminal. The total ~US$160 million investment is expected to be financed through federal and state grants, plus contributions from Broward County , FPL, and the three participating cruise companies.

The required minimum number of ship calls (per fiscal year) is 45, which is 15 more than the previous agreement. The facility incorporates PortMiami's existing terminals B and C into a single/new "Terminal B". Royal Caribbean is leasing the land for an initial 20-year period (until 2048) at base rent US$9,5 million per year (annual increase 1,5%).

Port Canaveral is the nearest Disney World city, situated about one hour east of Orlando by car. The driving distance to Tampa is 2 hours, to Jacksonville - 2,5 hours. This is a dual-voltage system targeted for use by Cunard Line and Princess Cruises, which are the terminal’s primary customers. The Terminal's cable positioning device is removable, so it can be stored during winter. NY-NJ port's main imports are petroleum, appliances, vehicles, plastics, electronics, chemicals, perfumes, pharmaceuticals, optical and photographic materials, precious gems and metals. Cape Liberty Cruise Port is also in New York Harbor but is part of Bayonne City (New Jersey).

Alaskan Cruise Packing Checklist: 80+ Things To Bring Printable

Virgin Islands, Aruba, and Hawaii are some of the locations that require these types of sunscreens. Cash will therefore only really be needed for days in port and the amount will depend on your spending habits and how many shore days you have. The amount of cash you need on a cruise is less than you think. Cruise lines will have your room key tied to an account that you can pay off by card.

If you’re headed somewhere with loads of time for sand and surf, you might want to bring along your own snorkel and goggles so that you can set off on snorkeling excursions at whim. If you are on a longer sailing, consider taking advantage of the onboard laundry service rather than overpacking. Adding a collapsible tote to your list of things to pack for a cruise is a good strategy to help carry any extra souvenirs you might acquire along the way.

It depends on what you plan to do when you’re in port. Some allow guests to bring a limited quantity of bottled water or soda, while others might charge a fee. It’s crucial to check the cruise line’s specific policy.

Wet bags (or even plastic zip-top bags) will keep your wet stuff from leaking onto everything on your way back to the ship. You don't need to pack a clothesline to dry wet items because one is usually hidden in your cabin's shower. However, I do recommend bringing a laundry bag or pop-up hamper to keep dirty clothes separate and off the cabin floor. Chair clips are useful if you plan to dry your clothes on the balcony and don't want them to blow away. For long and overnight flights to your cruise, pack accessories for the plane. If you've scheduled a pre-cruise hotel stay, consider packing the necessities for that overnight in a separate bag so you don't need to unpack and repack your main suitcase.

Cruise Packing List Ultimate 2023 Checklist [With PDF Download]

Also, pack a book or e-reader and headphones to enjoy some downtime. Most cruise ships provide shampoo and conditioner, but if you have specific brands or preferences, pack your own. Protecting your skin from harmful UV rays is essential when you’re on a cruise vacation.

Daytime clothing

You'll want to pack your tablet, portable video game system and e-reader for both your pre-cruise travel and the sailing itself. Or, skip the tech and bring a few books, as many cruise ships no longer offer onboard libraries. Not all of us are lucky enough to live an hour or two from a cruise port. Many cruisers have to fly or road trip to their departure port and need to pack for this travel as well. Make sure your cruise packing list accounts for your pre- and post-cruise travel needs, as well as items useful for your time on board. Some cruise lines, such as Norwegian Cruise Line, have a relaxed attitude toward dinner attire, and you can come as you are.

You’ll still need it when you deport the ship for an excursion, and trust me you’ll be thanking yourself for bringing it with you to the cruise ship’s pool. Water may be readily available on the boat, but an insulated tumbler will do a better job at keeping your drink cold than a glass, and you’ll be refilling it less often. I’ve been loyal to my Hydro Flask water bottle for about five years now and can attest to its ability to keep your drink cold for up to 24 hours.

There isn’t a lot of extra space or storage in your cruise cabin, so hanging a shoe rack with pockets is a great way to organize smaller items. Toiletries, chargers, kid’s toys, cameras… they fit perfectly in a pocket where they are off the floor, spotted at a glance, and are easily accessible. Dramamine is the first thing I buy for all of my trips and the only reason I’m able to keep up with my cruising habit. I even once found myself buying a German version of this pill when I didn’t bring enough on a Europe trip (though it did make for one of my all-time most interesting souvenirs). While I’ve tried nonoral remedies for motion sickness, such as patches and wristbands, I find that these pills are the only thing that ward off my nausea completely. If you’re prone to motion sickness too, I suggest taking the pills preemptively, at a specified time each day.

These can be much more expensive, so best to do your research ahead of time to determine what is needed. Adaptors are inexpensive to purchase but do vary by destination, so check what is required for your travel destination. Guests can also bring non-alcoholic beverages up to 12 standard (17 oz.) cans, bottles, or cartons per stateroom. Milk and distilled water brought on for infant, medical, or dietary use are permitted.

This Beshon power strip features a flat design and wrap-around cord that makes it easy to pack without taking up too much space in your suitcase. It has three AC outlets, two USB-C Ports, and one USB-A, to ensure you won’t find yourself battling for outlet space on your next cruise. Packing for a cruise is one of the worst parts of your vacation. The only thing most cruise travelers dread more is unpacking when they get home. To lessen this dread, a comprehensive packing list is essential.

Pearl Mist Resumes Service Ahead of Summer Program in the Great Lakes

Pearl Mist was laid up in Nova Scotia (Shelburne) until a settlement was reached in 2013. The vessel was accepted by the shipowner and towed to Baltimore MD in April 2013. The cruise ship received final outfitting at Chesapeake Shipbuilding's yard in Salisbury MD. The 210-guest Pearl Mist is one of the most comfortable cruising vessels in the world, providing an exceptional luxury experience in an intimate, relaxed setting. The cruise also features a full transit of the St. Lawrence Seaway, a system of locks, canals, and channels that connects the Atlantic Ocean and the Great Lakes. Sailing roundtrip from Portland, the 210-guest ship is returning with a cruise to Maine and Canada.

Canada & New England Fall Foliage Cruise

Most days, Pearl Mist spends half to three-quarters of a day in port, leaving several hours of the day with little to do beyond attend a lecture, read a book, play cards or chat with friends. Even on days when the ship is in port longer, excursions are only a few hours and unless you want to shop 'til you drop or dine in port, you'll probably return to ship before it sets sail. With a maximum of only 210 passengers, daily cocktail hours and open seating at all meals, Pearl Mist makes it easy to meet every one of your shipmates. You'll meet educated people from all walks of life, many of whom have led a fascinating existence. End your amazing journey in Toronto, established as a Native American settlement and French fur trading post. Within its impressive skyline, there are several cultural hotspots including art galleries, museums, and performance centers.

For us (as well as the Glenns and the Glicks), one of the highlights of the Great Lakes itinerary was our stop on Mackinac Island. As the gateway to Lake Superior through the Soo Locks that rise 21-feet from Lake Huron, the town was once a thriving port town. After setting sail with a stunning Toronto skyline view, we spent our first afternoon and evening transiting the eight locks of the Welland Canal, with the ship rising 325 feet from Lake Ontario to Lake Erie.

The Pearl Mist also features open sundecks, a library, a fitness area, and a glass-enclosed spacious dining room.

Both categories (K and L) are with floor-ceiling sliding glass doors and private step-out balconies. One Cat K stateroom (#411, midship-portside) is larger and wraps around the ship's elevator. Just a short distance away, Midland, Ontario — population 17,500 — is a popular summer resort town with a strong Huron native and Jesuit mission history.

Explore the Îles de la Madeleine Archipelago, an exotic miniature paradise featuring a treasure trove of tasty, tempting locally produced foods, and where the warmth and generosity of the inhabitants are legendary. During the Flavours Circuit, meet with several local producers and discover the passion and love that they have for their work, including the Pied de Vents Cheese Factory and a local apple orchard, the only one located on the archipelago. With room for just 210 passengers, the vessel features a spacious dining room, large lounges, big windows, high ceilings and over-sized balcony accommodations.

Listen to traditional hand drum songs and taste fresh bannock and cedar tea with locally harvested maple syrup. Witness military performances, discover over 30 historic rooms, and enjoy views of the beautiful St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario. Your guided exploration will showcase life in 1867, when a garrison of soldiers was living at Fort Henry. View the additional museum rooms, including the Barrack rooms, the first fort of 1812, artillery and weapon displays, and the use of Fort Henry as an internment camp at various stages in its history. This amazing 15-night cruise explores the most magnificent regions of Canada and Maine. Peruse the charming town of Eastport, before being treated to a delicious lobster dinner pulled fresh from the ocean and drizzled with butter and all the trimmings.

If you have the flexibility to travel during the shoulder season or off season, you’ll likely enjoy big savings on popular stateroom categories, like Balconies and even Suites. Although cruisers can't book sailings directly via the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal, they can call an agent to handle the reservation over the phone. You can pay with points if you have enough saved, or use a credit card that will earn you points toward future redemptions.

THE BEST CRUISE DEALS & SPECIAL OFFERS

Planning ahead is a great way to score big savings, as Royal Caribbean often runs early saver deals to guests booking well in advance. It’s also pretty safe to assume prices usually go up as availability goes down the closer you get to your sail date, so booking ahead is a surefire way to lock in a great rate. That said, booking a cruise at the last minute can also yield some unexpected savings — but only if the itinerary you’re interested in hasn’t sold out yet. Wholesale clubs, where you pay for an annual membership in exchange for shopping in bulk or at a discount, are great places to take advantage of deals on cruises because they offer lowest-price guarantees, onboard perks and even cash back. Both BJ's and Costco sell cruises as part of their respective BJ's Travel and Costco Travel offerings. Meanwhile, Citi allows its cardholders to book cruises via its Citi Travel Portal.

And if you're looking for a little pampering with your time at sea, you can check out our luxury cruise deals on lines like Regent Seven Seas, Azamara, and Viking. Trust us, that spoil-yourself cruise glow is even brighter when you're getting it for way less money. Sail to the destination of your dreams from the departure port that works best for you. Similar to a traditional all inclusive vacation, food and entertainment on board is included in your cruise fare. Most cruise lines also offer a special and affordable drink package for your trip.

Does it pay to plan ahead, or should I wait until the last minute?

Chase's cruise program doesn't offer as many extras for cruisers as Amex's does, but Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders do get up to $300 in annual statement credits when they book travel, including cruises. If you're an American Express, Chase or Citi cardholder, you can utilize your card's respective travel portal or dedicated agents to book a sailing, potentially earning some extra points and perks in the process. As an example, American Express Travel offers a Cruise Privileges Program, which grants passengers up to $300 in onboard credit per cabin, as well as bonus points on cruise bookings made through Amex. Royal Caribbean also offers deals based on departure ports and destinations, so if you’re a flexible traveler looking for great savings, you can plan your next vacation around which itineraries are on sale.

However, with others (like Groupon), you're likely to be on your own and will have to sort out any snags with the cruise line directly. If you're looking for deals in your area, you might turn to Groupon, a website and app that entice shoppers to try the products or services of partnering retailers at a discount. Customers can search for general or location-specific bargains and purchase time-sensitive vouchers for the products and services in which they're interested.

If you’re not a planner, or if the only things you’re looking to focus on during your getaway is savoring great food, relaxing, and soaking up the sights, cruise vacations are the way to go. A cruise vacation is also a great option if you’re traveling with the whole family, especially when you opt for a Royal Caribbean cruise. All of the ships in this cruise line’s fleet offer family-friendly experiences for guests of all ages. Even little ones will find plenty of ways to play with spaces and activities designed for tots to tweens. One of the top reasons savvy travelers love cruising, though, is because of the incredible value it offers.

Cruise deals are your key to scoring a perfect vacation at sea without breaking your budget. Whether you're looking for a last-minute deal, discounts on a luxury cruise or family-friendly cruise deal, or extra onboard credit, finding real deals on cruises can take a lot of work. Cruise lines and travel agents offer a huge variety of confusing extras -- some that are an amazing value and others that aren't. If you want to earn points or miles, score perks and extras, and save some money on your cruise fare, these less-conventional booking methods are a great place to look. Just be sure to do some comparison shopping to ensure you're getting the best deal, and know which credit cards to use to maximize your spending. BJ's Travel offers a 110% guarantee that you'll get the best price possible on your cruise booking.

Bonvoy offers the most value of the two, giving cruisers 3 points per dollar spent, up to 30,000 points. As you mull options for making a vacation purchase — travel advisor, online travel agency, cruise line, direct booking — it's also a smart idea to consider these lesser-known cruise sellers. So how do you know whether or not a cruise deal is worth your hard-earned cash? Cruise Critic's Deal Score is a data-based tool that measures inclusions and extras with itinerary length and nightly fare discounts to help you understand how much of a deal you're actually getting. Keep in mind that, if you book through one of these third parties, you should inquire ahead of time about whether assistance is available if something goes wrong. Some of the avenues mentioned — auto clubs, airline and hotel booking portals, and wholesale clubs — will have someone available to help.

You can, of course, pay with any credit card, but if you already have a Citi Prestige® Card, you can use it to earn 3 points per dollar. The platform also allows you to apply Citi ThankYou Rewards points toward your sailing, but you'll have to call a Citi agent who can help you apply them. That's key info to have, especially when I tell you that Entertainment has a travel arm, and it includes cruises. Entertainment Cruises sells voyages from most of the popular ocean, river and luxury lines, and it has a 110% guarantee that you won't find a lower price or better deal elsewhere at the time of booking. The best part is you don't even have to have an Entertainment membership to book through Entertainment Cruises. In the past, I've seen Groupon offers for inexpensive sailings with MSC Cruises and Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line (now Margaritaville at Sea).

Furthermore, Cruise Critic makes no guarantees for availability of prices advertised on our site. There are plenty of ways to get more bang for your buck when you sail on a Royal Caribbean cruise. Every ship in the fleet offers a range of delicious complimentary dining options, but you can dig into even more crave-worthy flavor by purchasing a Specialty Dining Package for less ahead of your cruise. Add a Specialty Beverage Package — which includes unlimited alcoholic beverages, soda, and more — and your experience is as close to all-inclusive as it gets. And with so many complimentary shows and attractions onboard, you can easily fill every sea day without spending a single dollar extra.

For any cruises listed, Cruise Critic does not guarantee any specific rates or prices. With Costco, Executive Members get an annual 2% reward certificate on travel purchased through Costco Travel (certificate sent at time of membership renewal). Members who book through the Costco portal and use a Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi (see rates and fees) to pay will also get 3% cash back.

At the time of publication, BJ's was offering its members 5% back on cruises, as well as BJ's gift cards, with the purchase of a cruise. Plus, if you use a BJ's Perks Mastercard to pay for your reservation, you'll get 1% cash back. Choose from the best cruise deals and specials from a variety of cruise lines, destinations, departure ports, sailing dates and cruise lengths. It’s an age-old question — does the early bird really get the worm, or are there perks to taking a “wait-and-see” approach? If you’re booking a cruise vacation, you’ll find there are benefits to both strategies.

There are few things more satisfying than earning travel by simply traveling, but many cruise line loyalty programs aren't lucrative. That's why it's exciting that you can also earn points and miles by booking cruises via some of the hotel and airline loyalty programs in which you might already be enrolled. Here, I'll discuss some cruise booking options you might not have thought of, including ones where membership could score you a discount or added bonus. You might not have your next sailing top-of-mind while running errands, but you should know that the places where you stock up on groceries, redeem credit card points and get help with a flat tire might also be able to sell you a cruise. Check out deals on popular cruise lines like Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, and Carnival or look for that discount on a pricey Holland America cruise. Or maybe you have a particular destination in mind, like a Caribbean cruise or cruise to Alaska.
